Tonight we went to the kids Christmas party at the Children's Discovery Museum for our work. It was a little pricey for the tickets and it was at a strange time for us (6-8pm) but it was well worth the fun.
Kenley had been to the museum once before and didn't miss a beat remembering the water table. It was by far the biggest hit of the night. However we explored all of the floors, did a few crafts, watched the ballerinas, had some snacks (M&Ms and juice), and just enjoyed the fun pajama play! (It was a pajama party!!)
Chase slept thru the whole thing (well all but a few minutes where he had to wake up and toot for a bit.. I swear this gas will knock you over...)
Here are a few pictures to show all the fun...
I don't know why the last one turned itself sideways, so just tilt your head to the right and check out the mad pizza making skillz :)
I can't wait to do it all again! She had such a blast!

Places to nap
Oh the life of a baby... it's eat, nap, poop have really bad gas, repeat. Chase will nap anywhere (and so will I).
Firsts
The Brockmans are working on a lot of firsts lately...
Kenley enjoyed her first cup of hot chocolate and favored the small colored marshmallows :)
We also watched some of the first flurries of the season fly...
Mr. Chase enjoyed his first bottle (and did so well!)
and I froze the first bags of milk for the future (I learned a lot the first time around so I'm freezing them flat to stack them in once we get rolling)
We have also been catching our first smiles and boy do they just melt your heart...
I'm sure we will have many more firsts along the way and we are enjoying all of them as they come!

And so it begins...
I held off as long as I could but it has begun... if I want this to happen...
then I have to resume the Love/Hate relationship with my pump and accessories that I laid to rest over 1 year ago. Oh boy! Granted it's not the actual act of pumping that bothers me. I don't mind the few minutes it takes and when I return to work its a nice little break in the day to clear my head, but what I don't like is this...
All the WASHING and sterilizing. What you see here will need to be washed daily once I return to work. For now I will only pump occasionally and wash the pieces here and there but when back at work and pumping 2-3 times per day (or maybe more) this will need to be washed and washed and washed and washed and well you get the idea. If only there were some pumping elves to help with it all. With Kenley, Clay and I eventually had a pact that since I had to do all the pumping, he would do all the washing. I know it gets old fast so I don't expect the same deal this time but I know he will help as much as he can.
But I know in the long run it will be a distant memory and if we want to stock the freezer up and make it the first year then we will endure. It will take a few bottle brushes and lots of soap but we will make it in the end :)

1 month....
It feels like it's been more than a month since I posted (when really it's just been a little over 2 weeks) and I'm having some blogging withdrawals. I wish I could blog in the middle of the night in the dark while I nurse Chase but instead I just sit in the dark quiet and all the thoughts spin thru my head as I rock and lull not only Chase to sleep but also myself. (I have a bad habit of falling asleep sitting in the glider nursing Chase only to wake 2-3 hours later when it's time for him to eat again. I'm sure he doesn't mind but it's killing my butt and I miss my bed.)
So in an effort to catch up today, I told myself that first thing this morning I would STOP tidying (is that even a word?) the house as I seem to do this non-stop everyday and I would blog when Chase fell back asleep. So, here are some of the things happening with us....
Clay finished reading the Harry Potter series. He has been enjoying reading each night a bit before bed. Now that he has read the final book, we sat and watched the final movie last night.
I have been reading more too. I have been trying out my dad's Kindle to see if we would like to get them. I took a recommendation from our friend Bill and I've been reading The Hunger Games trilogy. They are written for a younger audience but provide a fast and interesting read. I have finished the first 2 books now and I'm eagerly ready to read the 3rd. I'm going to see if Bill can send me the 3rd from his Kindle. You have to read them in a certain amount of time when you "share" but I flew thru the first 2 books so I'm sure the 3rd will be just as good.
In addition to the endless tidying which I seem to keep myself busy with I've been driving myself nuts with the endless LISTS. Things I want to do or accomplish like clean the guest room closet, organize the basement, repot a plant, paint Chase's letters, do his baby book, etc, etc. What I'm finding is that each day when I think I can get at least 1 thing done I feel completely unproductive and I just keep adding to the list. I'm trying to keep caught up on pictures too and that's something I enjoy. Goal today: BLOG (currently in progress so I may accomplish this one!)
Kenley is just as wonderful as ever. She is an amazing big sister and has adapted perfectly. She loves to give him kisses and share her stuffed animals with him. We even try to have her help read Chase a bedtime story before she goes to bed when it times up with his feeding. Yesterday she also helped give him a bath and did a great job until she poured cold water from her island tree (toy) onto him. He didn't much care for that and started to cry :(
Kenley is also showing an interest in the big girl potty. She has actually started asking to go pee pee on the potty and we are seeing where it goes. She has successfully done this numerous times this weekend. We plan on trying to "officially" try and potty train around her 2 year bday at the end of the month when Clay and I will be home for the week and we will keep her home too. Wish us luck!
Now Mr. Chase is also wonderful!!! He had his 1 month check up this past Friday and he is growing super fast. He is already up to 11 pounds 4 ounces :) (90th percentile) and he is also the 90th percentile for height. It's easier the 2nd time around so we don't have as many of those "new parent" questions for the doctor. We are getting ready to try something new and give him his 1st bottle this week. I'm sure he will do fine but it makes me a little nervous and I dread it a bit. Nervous that he won't want to nurse anymore (which I know is ridiculous) and dread it cause it means I have to start pumping. I don't miss pumping and I don't look forward to doing it so much over the next year but I know it's worth it in the long run for me and for Chase so I will start.
I also have to marvel at Chase's temperament. He is his father's son. He is such a laid back and content baby. He is only impatient when he is hungry and just loves to look around or cuddle when awake. He has been great at night and been doing good in the crib. I just love him to pieces!
I'm sure I forgot a few things and they will cross my mind tomorrow morning at 3am in the dark and quiet while nursing but for now I'll leave you with a few pictures.
We had some family pictures taken when Chase was 1 week old (see top of blog too). The pictures surrounded around a baseball diaper cover and hat set I bought. I wanted to use them for his birth announcements and do something clever like "Proud to announce our newest ALL STAR." While I used the pictures, the wording didn't make the cut based on the template I had to use from Sam's photo shop. Oh well, the pictures are still just as cute. (Also made our Christmas card pics but I won't share those yet.)
(If you want to see all the family pics, let me know and I'll send you the Shutterfly album.)
And I'll end with a picture of my lil' man for his 1 month :)

Like...
Little Miss Fix-It
Or Little Miss Helper (esp in the kitchen)
Here she is helping with Thanksgiving Dinner..
and Little Miss Photog.. (she loves the camera and now knows how to take pictures..granted she is still working on her aim :) *WINK*)

Dining room and more
Well today we got one of the last furniture pieces for the Hotel Brockman. We got our new dining room table. We looked around but the furniture store selection in town is very limited. We found something that I think looks nice and fit our budget.
Previously our dining area looked like this...
The table was a hand me down and super old. Clay and I have had it since we moved in together in 2002 and it's seem better days. One of the chairs is covered in paint, one has a chewed up leg or two from Chibi, and one wobbles.
However, now it looks like this...
I talked myself into doing 6 chairs instead of just the 4 we originally planned. This is the table without the leaf out. It expands to a square table so it could seat 8 if we wanted. I will have to decide if we are keeping all 6 chairs around it or not or if we have room to expand it all the time. It will be super nice for holidays and having a few guests even if a few of the chairs will have boosters :) I'm very pleased with the new look and will totally be hitting up Pintrest to find a centerpiece idea for the holiday season! I'm also glad I no longer have the table cloth to worry about. That thing was constantly dirty or being washed.
While the dining room was empty this afternoon/evening Kenley asked several times "Where table go?" and we told her we were getting a new one. However in the meantime she had to have dinner with her friends so she made her own "table and chairs."
She made sure every guest was comfortable and had the proper eating utensils.
Her imagination is remarkable and Clay and I get such a kick out of watching her "Pretend" and play. Even yesterday she decided it was naptime for everyone and she got everyone lined up with their own pillow and blankets.
She also made sure to feed and burp everyone. She is very caring (and this shows with the help she gives for Baby Chase too.) Now some of her behavior mimics real life as she started trying to feed Minnie today with some "Mommy milk"
She really is a sponge and will do anything and say anything she sees or hears. I just love watching her learn and process it all. I kept her home these past 2 days from the sitter (as the sitter had a sick kid) and while challenging the first day, today went well and I've loved having the special time together. I tried to take their picture together today and this was the best I got...
The lil' man was a bit more cooperative but of course he was oblivious to it all :) (and he can't run away yet!)
Tomorrow we will send Kenley back to the sitter and I'm having a friend and her new baby girl for lunch. Then Friday, Ms. Laura Suga will be swinging by and we take Chase to the dr for his 2 week checkup. I'm anxious to see how much weight he has gained so I can rest assured that he is getting enough to eat. Not much planned this weekend although we'd like to take Kenley for another haircut and we will enjoy more quiet time at home. Life is good!!!

Life at the Hotel Brockman
Seems like haven't been on here lately. Actually haven't been on the computer much lately really or at least for any substantial amount of time. Maybe a minute or two here and there to stalk Facebook or check email but nothing where I sit and type.
I know I promised more to Chase's story but the hospital stay was rather uneventful. I'll start with coming home. Oh what a great feeling to come home. I was immediately greeted at the door with a big hug and kiss from Kenley and then I heard something that melted my heart. Clay was coming in behind me and carrying chase when she let out the most excited squeal I had ever heard and a big "CHASE!" She was excited her baby brother was home and immediately wanted to stay by his side.
To say she is smitten is a big understatement. Her daily excitement to see him, hold him, and help is amazing. She wants to see him and hold him immediately when she gets home and comes running into the house to figure out where he is and what he is doing.
Regardless of whether he is awake or asleep, she looks at him and says, "He's awake!" and smiles from ear to ear. She wants to smother him in kisses and hugs and he seems to tolerate big sister's noise (as well as her poking and prodding) quite well.
Not to jinx it or anything but the whole thing seems "easier" this time around. Maybe it's because we lived thru it once already and know that the sleep deprived nights don't last long or maybe it's just because we have a better idea of what to expect and how it all works. Don't get me wrong, I still worry a lot. I check on him frequently as I don't remember Kenley sleeping as much as this little guy does. I worry he's not eating enough, he's not pooping enough, etc. I know I shouldn't worry but it's so hard (esp with all of the nursing stuff.)
I've been enjoying the quiet time at home during the days and catching up on my Price Is Right. I try to sneak in a nap when I can (headed there now too) so the nights don't seem as long. I'm up usually 2 times a night between 11 and 5 so that's not overly horrible if I've had the nap.
We've worked on getting him into his crib already and have given him his first few sponge baths. I'm waiting for that nasty cord stump to fall off for the first real bath.
We are enjoying settling in as a family of four and couldn't be happier. I'll try to keep up on pics and blog posts as much as I can but I find myself wishing we had our laptop so I could do this all downstairs instead of up here on the 2nd floor. (We just got rid of our laptop earlier this year and don't really need a new one plus its not in the budget but it would be nice for leave.)

The birth of Chase Brockman: Part 1 (more to come)
It all started on Tuesday Nov 1. I had my 39 week appt. An appointment I'm sure my doctor thought I'd never see and one I didn't expect either. I limped my way into the room still steady at 208-209 lbs and prepared for the appt. I was still a good solid 3 (maybe toward a 4) and thinning but maybe only 50%. Then she asked about induction again.
Clay and I had chatted about it and come to several conclusions. I was miserable and in a lot of pain when trying to walk, sit, sleep, well pretty much do anything. I had on several occasions had to crawl to the bathroom in the middle of the night uncertain my legs/hips would coordinate the way they needed to. I was beyond uncomfortable and felt so much pressure like the baby's head was just about to come out. I didn't want to give in. I felt like I was giving up but I rationalized it was only a few days before my due date and I was physically ready. For Clay, induction eased his fears that we would go in the middle of the night and we would already have someone there to take care of Kenley, so we did it. We scheduled ourselves to be induced on Thursday 11/3/11 at 7am.
Wed went by in a blur and Thursday was quickly here. I was up and anxious a little after 4am. It seemed so weird to know the baby was coming today. I called the hospital as instructed around 6 to see if things were on schedule and learned they had 3 emergency c-sections that morning and were getting ready to start the 2nd. I would have to wait to come in until all 3 were in recovery. Later we got a call that said we should be there at 9am so the delay was only temporary.
Upon our arrival, I waddled to the mother/baby unit. Along the way a volunteer had offered a wheelchair but I declined. I was walking just not very fast. We got there and my doctor was there too. They had forgotten to call her so she was there to break my water and I hadn't even been started yet. She left to come back later and I got started. Around 10am all the paperwork was done and it was time for the drugs.
I was 4cm and about 80%effaced when we started my IV and the petocin. I could feel the contractions starting but they were mild and I was completely unaffected. At noon, my doctor came back to break my water. She warned me that things were going to get "intense" very quickly after my water was broken and I didn't think much about it. I sent Clay down for his lunch and laid there waiting. Man on man was she right. Within minutes the pain of the contractions went from mild and nearly non-existent to knocking me on my butt. They were almost immediately 3-4 minutes apart and super strong and getting longer. I labored thru them for a short time and then decided I wanted the epidural. Lucky for me the anesthesiologist was on the floor so she was in there in no time.
I remember my epidural with Kenley being a piece of cake but I was still nervous about this one. While this one also went smoothly it was much more interesting as everything seemed to be going on all at once. I was having a contraction, losing more fluid, getting my blood pressure taken, and getting the procedure where you are supposed to stay completely still and in a certain position the whole time. Fun!
The epidural slowly took affect and I was much more comfortable. I could still feel contractions and the pressure but not overly intense. At 2pm they checked me and I was 6cm. I had expected more progress but labored on. We did have a small scare when the baby's heartrate dropped and they came in to put an internal monitor on the baby's head but all was well within minutes and they were getting the accurate readings they needed.
At 3pm, they checked again and magically I was ready. Here is were everything gets blurry and seemed to move so fast. Somehow, my doctor was magically there immediately and they rushed around to get the room prepped and ready. I could feel increased pressure with each contraction and knew I would need to push soon. Then around 310, it was showtime. We started pushing and everyone seemed excited about the progress I made with each push. I pushed for 3 sets of contractions and at 319pm, baby was born.
There was no crying yet as they suctioned the baby's mouth and nose. I was waiting for the "It's a ...." and it seemed like forever and then she said, "It's a BOY!" I immediately lost it and can't tell you what happened in the next few minutes. I know they laid him on my chest but I could barely see thru the tears. I heard the doctor ask Clay to cut the cord but I remember almost nothing else. I had my boy and I was elated.
As the tears cleared, I could see that he was a BIG boy. They took him to weigh him and he weighed in at a whopping 8lbs and 14oz. The doctor made a comment about his size and how "easy" I had made it all look. Here are a few pics of it all.. .
We made some phone calls and texts as my epidural slowly wore off and I regained use of my legs. I was ready to get out of the labor room and into my other room. I was anxious to see my little girl and have her meet her little brother. I talked my way into getting moved and taking the IV with me since I had to finish the huge bag of petocin they had started and it was barely half gone. (Guess they didn't have to up it very much to kick it into gear).
We had called my mom and she had gone to get Kenley. She was going to bring her by the hospital before dinner. I could hardly wait. When they got there, Chase was in the nursery so I had some Kenley snuggles.
Then daddy wheeled in Chase....
And he got to meet his very excited Big Sister Kenley....
It was love at first site! She is absolutely smitten with her baby brother and it warms my heart to pieces.
Kenley got to open her gift from Chase too (which was a baby all of her own). However now that we are home she is always more interested in the real thing than the toy baby :)
This is where I will leave off for now. Not much time to blog between naps and nursing but more to come about the time in the hospital, coming home and life with 2 kids so far... I promise :)

39 weeks
Well I can honestly say I didn't really think I would make it this far (and I'm sure my doctor didn't either.) Maybe it was her way of tricking me making me think I would go early when it really seems I'm in it for the long haul this time and fully baking this baby.
Today I am 39 weeks and my body has also been playing tricks on me. I don't know if its from the weight or just the pressure from the baby but walking and sitting have become a bit more difficult this past week. In fact, at times the pressure is painful to stand or try to walk. I even crawled to the bathroom this weekend once in the middle of the night. This morning I was moving extra slow but I made it to work and I'm doing okay. I prob need to get up and walk every few minutes just to make sure I don't cripple myself when I try to stand after a long time.
I don't go to the doctor until tomorrow afternoon. I'm sure she will ask about inducing again and although tempting I'm gonna try to make it thru. They always say baby knows best when to come but I'd like this baby to know momma is ready!!!
Here are today's belly shots. We've been taking them every week at this point just in case. Maybe we jinxed ourselves.. at any rate.. the site ahead may look a bit spooky but don't be scared. It's just my halloween costume :)

Happy Halloween!
We have a sweet lady bug at our house this year. She is so cute (but of course we are biased)!!! We decided to have a practice run at this "Trick or Treating" thing so Friday night we took her downtown Bloomington for the business Trick or Treating and she had a blast. She held on to her daddy's hand and took it all in. She watched a lot of the other little kids and made comments on their costumes.
And she quickly got the concept of CANDY ;) She started by whispering "trick or treat" but it was still really cute!
Tonight we will try to hand out some candy and then either go to the uptown Normal Trick or Treating or hit a few houses in our neighborhood. I just love watching the little ladybug wander around :)

And she always checked her bucket to make sure she didn't lose anything!
All it all it was a fun little thing to do and I look forward to taking her again next year. She was only spooked by one of the older kids' costumes. When she saw it, she just froze and went against the wall behind Clay's leg and silently watched him pass. Then she went about her business collecting candy and having fun. We tried to get a family pic but I noticed 2 things 1) Kenley is more interested in the candy she is holding and 2) when you have Grandma take a picture and Kenley isn't technically in the middle, she will be in the middle of the picture as she is the center of Grandma's world!!!Tonight we will try to hand out some candy and then either go to the uptown Normal Trick or Treating or hit a few houses in our neighborhood.
